Well, well well... The things you learn.

When we moved house, we happened to adopt the previous owner's Cocker Spaniel. We knew he was shy. We took him in and treated him like our other dogs - a part of the family. He never came inside before, and now spends most of his days in the warm with us. He would also continually CRY.

Mum and I clipped his tummy. He had mats in his coat so tight and so close to his skin that he had developed wounds and opened blisters beneath them. He was also infested with FLEAS. And EARMITES. It has taken us six weeks to get him all cleaned up, and he is now THE most LOVING, LOYAL and FRIENDLY dog I've ever known. He follows us everywhere and is just too sweet to be true.

Yesterday, our neighbour remarked how much he'd changed. How happy he now is. That he used to cower on sight.

Hmmm...

Today, through a more thorough physical examination, we learned that he'd been abused. He'd been kicked in the ribs, beaten, and had been, like, strangled. Vertebrae in his upper spine, neck and shoulder region were displaced, indicative of repeditive, bluntforce blows.

That makes me sick.

How could you leave your dog tied up like that? In the rain and freezing cold, and in the dead heat of summer?

How could you let his coat get so awful that he is actually BLEEDING under it?

How could you let him get fleas so badly?

How could you abuse him to the point that he is AFRAID TO LOOK AT YOU?

People make me sick.
